Between 1912 and 1951, noted chemist Dr. Albert C. Barnes assembled one of the most impressive art collections in the world. With an initial focus on impressionist, post-impressionist, and early modern European paintings, Dr. Barnes’ interests expanded to include African art, Native American pottery and jewelry, Pennsylvania German furniture, American avant-garde painting, antiques, and even wrought-iron metalwork.
