The Wild Area contains no roads & very little evidence of human activity. The 52-mile Chuck Keiper Trail passes through a large scrub-shrub area created from a forest fire in 1990. Birds include Golden-winged, Prairie, Chestnut-sided warblers, Eastern Towhee, Indigo Bunting, Common Yellowthroat, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Hermit Thrush, Scarlet Tanager, Broad-winged Hawk, Black-throated Blue, Canada, Magnolia warblers, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian and Cerulean Warblers, American Redstart & Whip-poor-will. Wildlife includes black bear, coyote, bobcat, white-tailed deer, fisher & timber rattlesnake. Location: Hike into wild area via CKT: travel Rt 144 north from I-80. Follow Rt 144 through Moshannon. Drive Rt 144 north for 18 miles from the stop sign in Moshannon. Turn left onto Jews Run Road. Drive 1 mile, parking lot on left marked with CKT signs. Follow trail southwest into Burns Run Wild Area. This area is also accessible by canoe from the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
