Hickory Creek Wilderness is adjacent to the campground. This 8,663-acre area is replete with solitude, serenity, and wildlife; no motorized and or mechanized equipment (baby carriages or strollers) of any kind are permitted. A 11 mile loop hiking trail weaves its way through the rolling terrain, climbing in and out of the valleys. Civilian Conservation Corps workers (CCC) constructed the campground, picnic area, and pavilion in 1936. An exhibit of a hand-hewed log is adjacent to the picnic area.
