The Forest is located in Northeast PA and includes Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties. The district also hosts six natural areas.
The Thunder Swamp Trail System provides a 45-mile network of interconnecting hiking trails. The trail crosses numerous ridges, valleys, and follows the contours of wetlands. Also, four miles of the multi-state Appalachian Trail traverse the forest.
Trails within the forest are open to mountain biking. Most trails are kept clear over the summer.
Trails within the forest are open to horseback riding.
Always let someone know when and where you will be hiking. Leave no trace of your activities.
Primitive campers spending no more than one night at a campsite typically do not need a camping permit, with certain exceptions.
