Sharon

Sharon is a celebration of the superlative: the town boasts the World's Largest Shoe Store, the World's Largest Candy Store, and the Best Wings in the U.S.A. Whether or not this is true, the town is still a charming place to visit. Mercer County's lakes are excellent for fishing and boating, and nearby shopping outlets make bargain-hunters happy. Golfers, antique collectors, and B&B fans will find plenty to do here, but car thieves won't: Sharon is the birthplace of The Club, the ubiquitous steering-wheel lock.

Half-marathons and homemade blackberry brandy
Submitted by: Erica
My friends and I ran our first half-marathon in Sharon. The race was great, very well organized and fun route to run. But I was so nervous before the race I was only able to eat a handful of fruit loops. After the race we all went back to my friend’s parent’s house. Her family is Serbian and it turns out it’s tradition for them to offer drinks to guests, even if it’s just 12 in the afternoon. So we walk in the door and her father opens this bottle of homemade blackberry brandy. He barely speaks English, and we don’t want to offend, so here I am drinking brandy after running 13.1 miles with nothing but a few fruit loops in my belly. You can imagine how that went. Fortunately it was not long before we found ourselves at the 3 Brothers Italian restaurant where we had an excellent (and much needed) meal.
