Pittsburgh & Its Countryside

Whether you're looking for the bright lights and big-city feel of one of the world's top cultural destinations or the quiet beauty of the surrounding countryside, this region has it. From the wooded hiking and biking trails and rushing waters of Ohiopyle State Park to the exciting nightlife of Pittsburgh, this is an inviting, friendly place to explore and relax. Take in a touring Broadway show or a live music performance in the Cultural District, then gallery-hop amid eclectic restaurants and avant-garde entertainment venues. Or get off the beaten path and explore Pittsburgh's many ethnic neighborhoods. You can also hit the road and check out the quaint inns, antique shops, and picturesque towns sprinkled throughout the region.

All About the Laurel Highlands
Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands is where spectacular scenery meets legendary architecture. Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater synthesizes the area's natural beauty seamlessly with one of the world's icons of modernism. Just six miles away is Wright's Kentuck Knob, another architectural masterpiece. And a third Wright-designed home, the Duncan House, accommodates overnight guests.

But the Laurel Highlands are more than that. The Youghiogheny River, the Great Allegheny Passage, Mystic Rock golf course, and Pennsylvania's highest mountain make for some great outdoor fun. And Seven Springs Mountain Resort was voted the #1 Ski Resort in the Mid-Atlantic by Ski Magazine. Spas, amusement parks, historic sites, wineries, and more make this an ideal getaway spot.

A wrong turn lands me in a very cool place
Submitted by: pschrec90
Last October, while traveling to a favorite fishing spot in the Laurel Highlands, I decided to take a shortcut up and over a mountain dirt road near Ohiopyle. As I was nearing the top of mountain I heard a loud "THUMP!" I stopped and saw oil dripping steadily from underneath. I had ripped a hole in my oil pan. I made my way to Riverside Motor Sales in Confluence. The people there were great. Even though they had a full service schedule, the mechanic said he could probabaly fix my car temporarily, good enough for me to get home. My car did make it all the way back to Pittsburgh and, in fact, one of Riverside Motor Sales employees actually followed me part of the way home to make sure the I would make it. My day could have been a lot worse. But I met some very kind people, enjoyed a terrific lunch and made a memory I will never forget.
