This park is a great place to visit. Old-growth hemlocks, estimated at 300 to 350 years old, and three waterfalls on Fall Brook are high points. The park has 842 acres, mostly wooded, with very little development. A picnic area is at the base of a mountain along a stream, with a restroom nearby. A walk across the bridge will take you to the remains of the "Salt Spring" from which the park was named and to trails leading to Penny Rock, the old-growth forest, and an overlook station above the waterfalls. More than 12 miles of hiking trails meander through the park, and the country dirt roads are also available for hiking and biking. Eight campsites and 3 rustic cabins provide fairly secluded spots to get away from it all. Enjoy trout fishing in the crystal clear waters of Fall Brook and Silver Creek, which are stocked each year. Hunters will find turkeys, pheasants, deer, and more. From May to Dec, browse historical and environmental displays in the 1840s Wheaton House, weekends only.
