The crisp air, the deep red of the leaves---something about fall in Pennsylvania just makes a glass of wine seem so right. Luckily, our many beautiful wineries are happy to oblige. Pennsylvania's Great Lakes Region is renowned for its fine wines; you can find just about any variety you're looking for just by visiting (and tasting!). This three-day roadtrip will take you through the fall foliage displays along Interstate 79 and up to the town of North East. Are you ready for a relaxing weekend of wine? Let's go!
PrintEmailNot far from the town of Hadley is the Wilhelm Winery, a welcoming little place with a wealth of wines for the tasting. From robust reds to light whites, they have pretty much anything that tickles your tastebuds---even fruit wines! Wilhelm Winery offers tastings and tours of its century-old barn as well as a shop with gift baskets, souvenirs, and other specialty items. You can even order wine with personalized labels. While you're in the area, stop by scenic Lake Wilhelm. The surrounding Maurice K. Goddard State Park boasts fabulous fall colors and provides the perfect backdrop for fall fun.
Day two takes you to the scenic shores of Conneaut Lake, a historic resort area with plenty to see and do. Conneaut Cellars Winery offers free tours and tastings every day along with a gift shop, so be sure to block off enough time to experience it all. The winery produces many, many varieties including old-fashioned farm wines, French-American hybrids, and sparkling wines. Food pairing recommendations and a sweetness scale make it easy to narrow down your tasting list. Gift baskets, wine gadgets, and gourmet treats make the gift shop a wonderful resource (especially if your list includes people who are hard to buy for!).
