Travel down scenic 79 South for a taste of farm living and fine Pennsylvania wines - and don't forget your market basket!
PrintEmailYour excursion begins with a visit to Eichner's, a farm market and greenhouse overflowing with fresh veggies and fruits. They sell farm-fresh eggs, too, along with apple cider, maple syrup, and homemade sauerkraut. Save some room, though, because your next stop is a good one! Harvest Valley Farms features a huge selection of fresh produce corn, tomatoes, broccoli, squash, spinach, potatoes, pretty much whatever you're looking for. Enjoy a picnic lunch, then head on over to La Casa Narcisi Winery for a taste of post-prandial paradise. The winery offers tours and tastings, so take your time. When you're ready to call it a day, check into Ber-nita Acres B&B. A cozy 1860s farmhouse is the centerpiece of this 92-acre farm, but spend some time outside with the resident alpacas, ostriches, cows, sheep, and birds. Two spring-fed lakes are perfect for fishing and boating, and there's even a playground if the kids get tired of petting the animals (what are the odds of that happening?).
>>>>We sure hope you're ready today you're hitting three farm markets! First up is the fabulous Soergel Orchards. It's way more than orchards, by the way you'll find a bakery, a produce market, a garden center, and a gift barn literally filled to the rafters with cute stuff. There are also animals to visit and a play area where the kids can blow off steam while you have lunch. Your next stop is Kaelin Farm Market, though, so save some room. After all this eating and shopping, you're probably ready for a quiet place to rest and rejuvenate. We recommend the Armstrong Farms B&B, a lovely old (1816) house filled with antiques and surrounded by 1,000 acres of hiking and horse trails. Admire the pastures and the purebred cattle yes, this is an actual working farm.
Get your day started at Plum Run Vineyards(Yes, you're doing some wine tasting right after breakfast! Hey, you're on vacation.). This lovely vineyard and fruit farm also features a retail store, so stock up for your cellar back home. You'll really love the next stop: Weatherbury Farm. This family farm is picture-perfect with its meadows, gardens, cows, chickens, and sheep. Visit or make plans to stay over; you can even help the farmer with his morning chores. Your last stop is the Avella Farmers Market, an old-fashioned collection of farm stands where the farmers themselves sell fresh produce, baked goods, veggies, flowers, and more.
