For spectacular natural beauty, thrilling outdoor adventures, and year-round activities, Moraine State Park is a must-visit destination in western Pennsylvania’s Butler County. This 16,725-acre park sprawls across Brady, Clay, Franklin, Muddy Creek, and Worth townships and draws nearly 2 million visitors per year with its activities on both land and water. In 2020, Moraine State Park will celebrate its 50th anniversary with special events. Whether you’re visiting for the events or simply want to enjoy the park’s picturesque scenery, there’s plenty to see and do.

Things to Do at Moraine State Park

The glittering jewel of Moraine State Park is the 3,225-acre Lake Arthur, which offers an array of activities across its deep-blue waters. Launch a boat (up to 20 horsepower) in one of its 10 public boat launches, take a summer sailing class, watch a race or regatta, swim from the sandy beaches, take a stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) lesson from SurfSUP Adventures, or drop in a fishing line. From McDaniels Boat Launch, go on the “Nautical Nature” guided pontoon boat tour to learn about the area’s wildlife.

For adventures on land, bring your hiking boots to explore more than 28 miles of trails, which meander through lush forests and wide-open grassy areas and along the lakeshore and past wetlands. The 14-mile Glacier Ridge Trail is part of the North Country National Scenic Trail, which runs through Moraine State Park and extends more than 4,600 miles from North Dakota to Vermont.

To explore on two wheels, bring your bike or rent one to pedal along the easy 7-mile (one way) paved bike path that winds along the shoreline of Lake Arthur. Or, kick up some dirt on the technical 6-mile loop mountain biking trail, offering a thrill for experienced riders.

For a game of disc golf, make the most of the 18-hole, par 66 championship level disc golf course in the Lakeview Day Use Area, offering picturesque views and a challenging workout.
