Old Economy Village, a National Historic Landmark site, derives its title from the town of Oekonomie, built 1824-1830. Restored buildings are furnished with collections of the Harmony Society, a German communal group known for its industrial prosperity in textiles and manufacturing, railroad investments and winemaking. Visitors encounter ever-changing traditional tradesmen, perform historic chores and view 17 historic structures, formal gardens, original paintings, tools, books and furnishings. Visitor Center offers orientation video, exhibits, museum store. Open April 16 through October 31. Hours of operation are Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 5:00 p.m. Docent guided Historic tours offered Friday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m., Sunday at 12:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. Tour times vary, call ahead.
