Visit the most noteworthy example of virgin white pine and hemlock in the Pennsylvania Wilds located in the Allegheny National Forest. Walk among 300- to 400-year-old trees in this 20-acre stand of old-growth timber. Ironically, this stand was protected by the Wheeler and Dusenbury Lumber Company. Along the way find out what effects time, weather, insects, diseases, and deer have had on the look and feel of this forest. Amenities include parking, restrooms, water fountains, camping, one-mile nested loop and improved gravel surface.
To reach Hearts Content Recreation Area, take the Warren to Tidioute Road from Warren or Tidioute to the junction of the Hearts Content Road. Follow this road four miles to the Hearts Content Recreation Area. From Sheffield, take the Austin Hill (Bull Hill) Road to the Hearts Content Road. Total distance is approximately 15 miles.
